In a copy of a handwritten certificate by Georg Gilardon, former director of the Army Museum in Munich, dated 20 August 1950, the helmet is dated around 1330. The letter indicates that the helmet was formerly kept in Altenbreisach Castle (Alt-Breisach Fortress) and in Breisach Cathedral, and was later (before the Second World War) on loan to the Bavarian Army Museum.
